Explore Your Music School
We teach virtually every instrument between the team of 30 specialist teachers. from the regular instruments like Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Violin and Drums to the more unusual like Banjo, Ukulele and Steel Drums. We teach approximately 1000 local students every week.
Our 20 teaching studios at Your Music School Canterbury are very well equipped with instruments of the best quality for learning on. Some pupils bring their own and some use ours. We have a large performance area for ensembles and rooms where bands can rehearse too.
Throughout the year we have events of all types taking place where our pupils can share their achievements with others to small or large audiences. Small informal events may be our monthly open mic nights or a local primary school fete right up to our annual festival which has achieved audiences of up to 1000 people. There is so much to be gained by performing to an audience, especially building up confidence, so we offer performance opportunities for everyone.
Taking exams isn't for everyone but it a very important part of the musical journey for many pupils. We work with all the main exam boards and are proud to be the local Canterbury centre for some of the exam boards too. We support exams from The Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM), Trinity College, Trinity Rock & Pop, Rockschool and RGT.

Over the past two years we have established a great relationship with Your Music School in Canterbury. Not only has James blown us away with his thriving music school, he has become a very good friend. The calibre of his teachers is second to none and the shop is a little treasure trove for any musician, be them a beginner or expert.
My daughters all play musical instruments and are taught by confident tutors with an honest down to earth method of teaching. The girls really look forward to their weekly lessons and have progressed quickly and might I add painlessly through the expert nurturing and fun approach to music! I myself have immersed into the friendly music school and following a child hood dream by learning to play the saxophone the brilliant David Brazier!
YMS has been a very important part of my education as school failed to provide competent music lessons. The friendly down to earth approach to the theory side of guitar and music taught to me by has made respected music university auditions a breeze and consistently exceeded my goals in my playing. It’s been a truly vital part in starting my career in the music industry!
